Everything you might want to know

Of course you have more questions.

Some of these I’ve been asked. Most of them I’d ask, too, if I were deciding whether to trust someone with a project this personal. If yours isn’t here, skip to the bottom and ask me directly.

Start with the process

The questions that come up most — can we really do this in two weeks, what if I’ve stalled on this before, what if it turns out not to be right for me — I answer on the How It Works page. This page is for everything after those.

About the process

What does ‘done-with-you’ actually mean?

It sits between two things you may have already tried. It’s not do-it-yourself, where someone hands you a tool and the work stays yours. And it’s not done-for-you, where a designer disappears for six weeks and comes back with a website you don’t recognize. We make the decisions together, I do the heavy lifting on the build, and you’re part of every launch moment. You’ll never wonder what’s happening with your own website.

Does this include a logo and other branding design?

No. That would make the process longer and more intense.

Do I need a logo and a brand in order to launch a website?

Some people arrive with an established brand. It’s okay if you don’t.

One of the mindsets we embrace in this process is that we will do the best we can with what we have in the time we give ourselves.

If you do not have a logo or a brand, we will go through a light process where we will choose some colors and a typographic treatment for your company name for the website. It will not be as rigorous as a logo design process, but it should still reflect you in some way.

Do I need professional photos or finished copy before we start?

No. And this is important, so let me say it more clearly: there are no prerequisites here. Waiting until you “have your act together” is one of the ways this project has stayed stuck. We work with what you have. That’s the point.

How much of my time will this take?

The calls are the backbone: Welcome, Discover, Learn, and Leverage, plus being part of launch day(s). Between them, the onboarding questionnaire — short or extended, your choice.

I have a half-finished website from an earlier attempt. Is that a problem?

The opposite, actually. An abandoned attempt is information: it shows me where things locked up last time. If parts of it still sound like you, we’ll use them. And if looking at it makes you feel a little sick, you never have to open it again — tell me where it lives and I’ll handle it.

About the website

Do I own the website after the launch? What about hosting?

Of course!

Your site is yours, and you should be able to do with it what you want. At the end of the Launch phase, you will have a static HTML website that you can host anywhere.

That said, this offer includes a year of hosting for your site. Any additional development or content update arrangements with me will include continued hosting. But if you prefer to host the files somewhere else, I will be happy to provide the files to you at any time.

How do we handle site updates?

When the site first launches, we’ll have a follow-up call, and you can make a brief round of follow-up changes. But after that I really encourage you to let it go for a few weeks. Especially if you are a perfectionist.

You won’t be doing it alone after that, either: your first year includes text updates. Email me the change — a new phone number, a new service, a paragraph that’s been bugging you — and I make it.

During the Leverage call, we can talk about future arrangements: continued hosting and content updates, or even a pleasant, modern content management system so you can manage the content yourself.

I really need a certain feature (like a blog) to be part of my site launch. Can we do that?

I love that you are thinking bigger! But my advice is almost always to wait until the Leverage phase to talk about adding features to the site.

Right now, you don’t have a website at all.

My goal is to get you launched as quickly as we can, and I have deliberately kept the initial launch small on purpose, so there are fewer opportunities to overthink and become overwhelmed.

If you have a compelling business reason for a particular feature, we can talk about a booster at launch.

What if I want more pages later?

The Praise page is already part of the process — it arrives in Phase 3, once you have testimonials worth showing. Beyond that, more pages are exactly what the roadmap is for. We’ll know far more about what your site needs after it’s been live for a month than either of us could guess today.

About the money

This is more expensive than Wix, Squarespace, WordPress, or My Cousin Frank. Why would I choose you?

The truth is, I’m not trying to compete with services like these.

If Wix or Cousin Frank or some wizzbang AI button can help you get unstuck, then go for it! They work for some people.

But if you’ve read this far, chances are you’ve already tried to build a website with one (or more!) of these tools. Which means you already know what I know: the tool isn’t why you’re stuck. And if that’s the case, the tool-of-the-month isn’t going to save you. What makes the difference is working with someone who understands what it feels like to struggle — because I’ve been on your side of this.

But that’s okay. We’ve got this. Let’s talk.

Is there a payment plan?

Not at this time. This is a quick-turnaround process, and I ask for full payment up front.

About whether this is for you

Is this only for people with ADHD?

No. I talk about my ADHD because it’s part of my story, and it explains why I build this way.

You don’t need a diagnosis to be here. You just need to be stuck. Perfectionism, overwhelm, self-doubt, burnout, a brain that works differently — whatever flavor your paralysis happens to take, we build the process around how you actually work.

Do I have to talk about my feelings?

Only as much as it helps the project. During the Welcome Call, we talk about what’s been in the way because the answer changes how we work. This isn’t therapy. I’m not qualified for that anyways.

Can I see websites you’ve built?

I’ve been building websites for other people since 1996 — hundreds of projects. Your Website Unlocked is new, though, so the launches from this process are still ahead of me. The site you’re reading is the first one.

What if I get stuck again halfway through?

The process assumes it can happen. The calls are already scheduled, so we don't depend on you self-starting — and keeping things moving is my job. The site will turn out best if we are both engaged throughout the process, but if you struggle in the middle, you’ll come back to a project that kept going, not a guilt trip.

More questions? Ask away!

You’ve read all the things and still have questions? Let’s chat. We can schedule a quick call below. If you’re not up for a call today, I get it. Feel free to write with your questions instead.

Free. Pitch-free. And if this isn’t the right fit, we’ll both know.

Not ready? That’s allowed.
